Seminar on “Road Safety Strategic Management and Pedestrian Safety Measures in Victoria, Australia”

With the UTC HCM leader’s consent, Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation associated with Faculty of Civil Engineering, World Bank and Transport Accident Commission (TAC), Victoria, Australia hold a seminar: “Road safety strategic management and pedestrian safety measures in Victoria, Australia” on July 25th 2019.

Regarding framework for cooperation between the University of Transport and Communications campus in Ho Chi Minh City (UTC HCMC) and the World Bank (WB) belongs to the Global Traffic Safety Initiative (BIGRS) project for the period 2015-2019 in Ho Chi Minh City which is sponsored by Bloomberg Foundation Philanthropies (BP). With the UTC HCM leader’s consent, Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation associated with Faculty of Civil Engineering, World Bank and Transport Accident Commission (TAC), Victoria, Australia hold a seminar: “Road safety strategic management and pedestrian safety measures in Victoria, Australia” at the Library Hall of the symposium on July 25th2019.

Distinguished guests joined with this seminar:
• For International Traffic Safety Assessment Organization:
+ Dr. Hafez Alavi - Director of the Safe System Road Infrastructure Program (SSRIP) at the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in Victoria, Australia;
+ Mcs. Tran Quang Vuong- International Traffic Safety Assessment Expert, and Head of Urban Construction Engineering Section.
• For the UTC HCMC:
+ Msc. Vo Xuan Ly - Director of Center for Practical Training and Technology Transfer in Transport;
+ Dr. Ngo Chau Phuong - Director of Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department;
+ Dr. Le Van Phuc - Vice Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering;
+ Dr.Tran Xuan Hoa - Deputy Director of Science, Technology and International Cooperation Department;
Together with the lecturers of Faculty of Civil Engineering, Center staff, Officers of UTC2 Company, and Officials of the HCM City's Transportation Department, and the students attended this seminar.

The organization and implementation of the seminar is one of the important results of further concretization for international cooperation relationship between the University of Transport and Communications - Campus in Ho Chi Minh City and International Traffic Safety Assessment Organization.

Dr. Hafez Alavi focused on sharing the management model and pedestrian safety measures in Victoria, Australia. In details, Dr. Hafez shared the results of traffic accidents, especially pedestrian safety measures in Victoria. He also shared the experiences in developing road safety strategic management based on the results of traffic accident analysis.
In particular, how to evaluate the effectiveness of a traffic safety project and how to convince the city’s government to implement the project. At the end of the presentation, he gave specific measures to improve pedestrian safety in Victoria. These measures are very practical to apply Ho Chi Minh condition.
