Sakai Heavy Industries, Ltd. visited and worked at UTC2

On the morning of November 7, 2025, Dr. Vo Truong Son, Vice Director of the Campus, welcomed a delegation from Sakai Heavy Industries, Ltd., led by Mr. Masahiro Tokita, Managing Executive Officer, to visit and work at the University of Transport and Communications – Campus in Ho Chi Minh City
On the morning of November 7, 2025, University of Transport and Communications (UTC) – Campsu in Ho Chi Minh City welcomed a delegation from Sakai Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Sakai) for a visit and working session. This event followed the successful business trip to Japan from July 28 to August 1, 2025, and the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement (MoU) on August 1, 2025.

Sakai Heavy Industries, Ltd., founded in 1919 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is a pioneer in vibratory soil compaction technology and the world’s leading manufacturer of road construction equipment, featuring the intelligent Compaction Meister roller technology for real-time density control and the autonomous ARMs (Autonomous Roller Management System) for unmanned compaction operations.

The Sakai delegation was led by Mr. Masahiro Tokita – Managing Executive Officer, accompanied by Mr. Hitoshi Fujita – General Manager, Professional Engineer (Civil), Engineering Sales Division, Mr. Naoto Sekiguchi – Deputy Manager, International Sales Division 1, Mr. Huynh Thanh Nhien – Vietnam Market Expert, and representatives from Sakai’s office in Ho Chi Minh City. On the Campus side, Dr. Vo Truong Son – Vice General Director of the Campus – chaired the reception, joined by leaders from Office of Science, Technology and International Cooperation, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Division of Mechanics, and Center for Training and Technology Transfer.

During the meeting, Sakai representatives affirmed their commitment to extensive cooperation with UTC in general and UTC2 in particular, exceeding the scope agreed in the MoU. The company also pledged to supply UTC2 with specialized equipment to support student training or to establish a practical laboratory in the near future. UTC2 leadership emphasized close coordination with Sakai under the framework of Resolution 57, aiming to successfully implement the “Three Houses” model – State, University, Enterprise. UTC2 welcomed all forms of support from Sakai and expressed the desire to elevate cooperation in the future. On this occasion, Sakai sponsored UTC2 with 200,000 Japanese yen as a symbol of trust and long-term commitment.

Notably, within the cooperation framework, Sakai invited UTC2 to jointly develop and submit a funding proposal to the AZEC (Asia Zero Emission Community). Both parties agreed to propose the project titled “Development of Japanese Solutions and Technologies for Material Reinforcement and Road Surface Structures for Sustainable Development and Carbon Emission Reduction in the Mekong Delta Region”, focusing on applying the Road Stabilizer method to reduce CO₂ emissions by 40–50% compared to conventional techniques, combined with field trials in Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City and other places. Moreover, Sakai is planning to support UTC2 to set-up a mechanical laboratory by providing a number of specialized equipment items. The project aligns with Articles 2(c) and 2(e) of the MoU and supports AZEC’s decarbonization goals in transportation and infrastructure.

Following the meeting, Faculty of Civil Engineering collaborated with Sakai to organize a scientific seminar “Japan’s Sustainable Pavement Technology”, with Mr. Hitoshi Fujita as the speaker. The session attracted strong participation from lecturers and students of Faculty of Civil Engineering and Division of Mechanics.
