Nowadays, employers require students to have practical knowledge and know the requirements of employers, so the University of Transport and Communications – campus in Ho Chi Minh City has created favorable conditions for students to attend
In the afternoon of July 10th, 2020, with the enthusiastic support from the HCMC Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) and the guidance of PhD. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong with Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - lecturer of the Urban Transport Planning and Management class, took a field trip to the central station of Metro line 1: Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien.
Metro is a high-class train system that can go underground or travel overhead thanks to viaducts in Vietnam, often called urban railways. Thanks to the separate infrastructure design, the speed of vehicles traveling on the metro line is faster, without intersections with other vehicles. Like the public bus system, the Metro travels many times a day, with stops and stations to pick up and drop off passengers. Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 8 Metro lines with a length of 169 km, one tramway route with a length of 12.8 km, and two monorail lines with a length of 43.7 km. It is expected that by the end of 2021, Metro Line 1 (MRT1) Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route will be used.
The field trip helped students gain more knowledge about their field of study, prepare basic practical knowledge for students after graduation, with the enthusiastic guidance of the staff working at Urban Railways Management Board, sharing its working experience to students. The trip also showed that the students are very energetic, enthusiastic, and confidently asking questions to the agencies where they go. From there, students can choose their fields of interest in the future.
When the Metro line is put into operation, it creates opportunities for students of the transportation planning and management industry, particularly students of the University of Transport and Communications campus in Ho Chi Minh City to have very high job opportunities. Because after the construction of the project, the Management Board needs a large number of employees to run the operation of the route.
Thanks to the HCM City Urban Railway Management Board for creating favorable conditions for students to have a field trip, to share practical experiences with students.
