With the expectation that their students will be exposed to the actual working environment, observing and learning about the industry they are studying, the University of Transport and Communication - Campus in Ho Chi Minh City (UTC.HCMC Campus) has organized a trip to Cat Lai SNP New Port - the largest container port in Vietnam.

On June 17, 2020, under the guidance of Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong and MSc. Nguyen Van Dung, in the Department of Transport Planning and Management together with Logistics Administration class 58th course - Planning and Managing the Urban Transportation Class 58 course had a fact-finding trip to Cat Lai New Port. During this trip, lecturers and students of the University were introduced by representatives of New Port Company - SNP about the process of formation, development, and operation of the system of seaports under the Saigon New Port corporation.

In the attached port system, Cat Lai New Port is the largest and most modern container port in Vietnam recently. It totally has a total area of 160 hectares, a pier length of 2,040 m (10 berths), equipped with 30 modern Panamax cranes, TOP-X modern container management and operation system of RBS (Australia) and TOPOVN. Synchronous hardware system enables real-time container management, optimizes port operation capacity, reduces delivery time, creates more convenience for customers, the capacity of 96,800 TEU a year and currently, it can even accommodate 81 trains per week; besides, the deep-water port system in Cai Mep area, including affiliated ports such as TCIT, TCTT, and TCCT. Along with that are ICDs in central locations, large industrial parks such as ICD Cang Moi- Song Than (Binh Duong), New Port ICD - Long Binh (Dong Nai), New Port ICD - Nhon Trach, New Port ICD - Que Vo (Bac Ninh), New Port ICD - Ha Nam, New Port ICD - Tay Ninh, New Port ICD - Hai Phong, New Port - Da Nang Depot.

Through the field trip, UTC2's lecturers and students have learned a lot of practical knowledge related to seaport operation. Thereby, lecturers can update their knowledge to contribute to making lectures more lively. Additionally, students have been clarified the theories learned in the University and have a certain orientation for their career in the future.
Besides, in-depth knowledge of logistics is also introduced by the easiest way for students in order that they can have a realistic view of the country's vibrant and potential integrated market.
